OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones credited an experimental trial drug for successfully treating advanced melanoma as he disclosed his cancer diagnosis publicly for the first time.

Jerry Jones revealed his cancer survival story ahead of the new Netflix documentary about his purchase of the Dallas Cowboys and their 1990s dynasty.

Jones made a passing reference in the documentary to undergoing cancer treatments “about a dozen years ago.” Jones confirmed to the Dallas Morning News that he was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in June of 2010 and underwent treatment over the following decade.
