Amos Hochstein, a top U.S. envoy to the Middle East, arrived in Beirut, the Lebanese capital, on Tuesday as efforts to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah appeared to be intensifying.

An Israeli airstrike killed five people in central Beirut on Monday, Lebanon's health ministry said, the second day in a row Israel has hit a target within the capital as it presses its campaign against Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah.

Amos Hochstein is expected in Beirut on Tuesday, according to two Lebanese official sources, in a sign of progress in ceasefire negotiations for the deadly cross-border conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
