Notre Dame has finally made a decision on its starting quarterback for the 2025 season, announcing that redshirt freshman CJ Carr has won the starting quarterback battle and will open up for the Irish in the season opener against Miami (Fla.) on August 31.

CJ Carr will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback when the No. 6 Irish open the season at No. 10 Miami on Aug. 31.

CJ Carr, who was recently named the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish ahead of the 2025 season, learned from his predecessor, Riley Leonard. Carr said that the biggest thing he learned from Leonard, who is now a rookie with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, is the need to be highly invested in one's teammates.
