The same U.S. attorney’s office that praised a drop in crime in the capital in April has begun an investigation into the Police Department resisting President Trump’s takeover.

Federal authorities are investigating the 2023 arrest of a Black man by Lawrence police, when a high-ranking officer "clotheslined" the man in the booking room.

Gerardo Ortiz Henriquez, 24, of Portland died while riding on the back of a Lime e-scooter on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Holladay Street. The operator of the scooter, who hasn’t been identified publicly, was seriously hurt in the crash and taken to a hospital. Police initially described the two men as pedestrians.

A former Upper Peninsula police officer accused of misusing his job to get women's personal information from law enforcement databases was bound over to stand trial on Monday, the Michigan Attorney General's Office said. Chad Olson, 43, will appear Aug. 21 in the 41st Circuit Court in Dickinson County before Judge Mary Barglind, records show.

The two officers killed were identified on Monday afternoon by the Tremonton-Garland Police Department as Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada. Sorensen and Estrada went to the home after the Box Elder County Communications Center received multiple 911 hang-up calls from the residence, police said in a statement.

A Maine police officer arrested by immigration authorities has agreed to voluntarily leave the country, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Monday.

At approximately 11 p.m., State Police received reports of a stabbing on Memorial Drive at JFK Street, according to Tim McGuirk, a State Police spokesperson.
