MIAMI, Florida -- Don Shula, who won the most games of any NFL coach and led the Miami Dolphins to the only perfect season in league history, died Monday at his home, the team said. He was 90.
Don Shula, 86, remains the NFL's all-time winningest coach. He coached the Dolphins for 26 seasons and won two Super Bowls, which included the league's only perfect season in 1972.
Shula died Monday at his home across Biscayne Bay from downtown Miami, the team said. He was 90. "Don Shula was the patriarch of the Miami Dolphins for 50 years," the Dolphins said in a statement.
Serving as a guest of honor at the Miami Dolphins ' 50th season celebration, Shula praised how the organization developed its football tradition "the right way," while slighting the rival Patriots.
