Salt trucks and snow plows have been hitting the pavement overnight across New York City ahead of Sunday's wintry storm system.

The interactive maps show the snowfall forecast for New York State from 1 p.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. On Sunday, the weather service is expecting a 30 percent chance for more snow and a high of about 36 degrees. Upstate New Yorkers can expect much more snow. A weather service advisory issued late Wednesday for the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions forecast up to 4 inches of snow to blanket the area.

A winter weather advisory remains in place Saturday morning for parts of New York and New Jersey, with snow expected to continue into the afternoon.

Many New Yorkers woke Thursday to find a blanket of snow on the ground. School districts and private schools across the Rochester region preemptively canceled classes and closed offices for Thursday - including the Rochester City School District, Greece Central School District and Pittsford Central School District.
