Click the Data tab and select Data Validation in the Data Tools group. A Data Validation dialog box will appear. Under Allow, click the drop-down arrow and select List from the drop-down list.

A common use of data validation is to create a drop-down list. Use it to restrict the type of data that users enter into an Excel cell.

You can use a custom list as previously mentioned or select another set of criteria. On the Data Validation dialog, choose the criteria you want to use in the boxes on the Settings tab.
