Residents in the Western U.S. are enduring a heat wave with temperatures reaching dangerous levels across Washington, Oregon, Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Fire weather alerts are in effect for parts of California and the Pacific Northwest amid an ongoing heat wave. The hot temperatures continue on Monday with Oregon and Washington seeing temperatures in the high 90s and even nearing the triple digits in Medford.

The peak of the heat wave is expected Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said. While it’s brought hotter temperatures than in recent weeks, it is not particularly extreme in terms of all-time Southern California highs. “This is definitely more normal heat for this time of year,” Sam Zuber, an NWS meteorologist said.
