A Special Assistant Attorney General with the office of Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha will be placed on unpaid leave after an alleged trespassing incident that was caught on a Newport police officer's body camera.

A Rhode Island special assistant attorney general who was arrested in Newport last week berated police over body camera footage while being trespassed.

A combative prosecutor ordered cops to turn off their body cameras while arresting her at a Rhode Island restaurant. Alcohol may have been a factor.

Devon Hogan Flanagan, a prosecutor with Rhode Island Attorney General's office, was arrested in Newport after refusing to leave a restaurant when asked by police. Caught on bodycam, she repeatedly identified herself as an attorney general and warned officers,

I’m an AG. I’m an AG,” Flanagan said, to which the officer yelled, “Good for you. I don’t give a (expletive). Let’s go.”

Keith Hoffmann has become the first candidate to formally announce they are running to be Rhode Island's next attorney general in the 2026 election. Until about three weeks ago, Hoffmann was chief of policy for the term-limited Attorney General Peter Neronha who, he says, encouraged him as far back as a year ago to consider running for the job.
