Superstar athletes Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James took to social media Thursday to pay their respects to Liverpool soccer star Diogo Jota following his death.

Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted to the death of his Portugal teammate Diogo Jota, saying it "doesn't make sense." Liverpool star Jota, 28, died in a car accident in Spain on Thursday along with his younger brother, André Silva, a professional soccer player with Portuguese side FC Penafiel.

Jota was a celebrated soccer player, spending the last five seasons with Liverpool. He helped lead the team to a Premier League title during the 2024-25 season. He also starred with Portugal, helping the team beat rival Spain in a penalty shootout in his final match in June.
