ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge has put a stop to further expansion of the immigration detention center built in the Florida Everglades and dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz ,” ordering that its operations wind down within two months.

A federal judge in Miami has ordered Florida to shut down and dismantle its controversial immigrant detention site known as “Alligator Alcatraz.” The ruling gives the state 60 days to remove all facilities and restore the area.

Nearly two months after the hasty and controversial birth of “Alligator Alcatraz,” a federal judge has slammed the brakes on the operation, ruling that no more detainees can be housed at the remote migrant detention camp deep in the marshy wetlands of the Everglades.
