Eleven people in Colorado have tested positive for West Nile this year, including five who developed neurologic symptoms and three who needed hospital care. One person died from the virus.

West Baton Rouge detected its first mosquito of the season with West Nile virus, parish mosquito control announced Monday. The bug was found in the north end of the parish, around Bueche, the department said. The parish will be taking extra precautions in that area, including daytime larviciding and multiple sprays at night.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that the West Nile virus was found in mosquito samples in New Bedford and Norton. According to the City of New Bedford, the sample was found near Oak Grove Cemetery in a “primarily bird-biting mosquito.
