Green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) is a very common, native street and park tree and has ash that can vary from a little blocky, to medium-textured interlacing ridges and furrows (like an accordion). This second texture is often what’s pictured when we think of ashes, and it is the reason the second species, Norway maple (Acer platanoides), is commonly called “ash-bar
