Perhaps the worst damage from the California storms this week was in the mountain town of Wrightwood in San Bernardino County, located 75 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Debris flows covered parts of the community in thick mud, burying some homes and vehicles. With electricity out, the Associated Press reported, residents who didn't evacuate were helping each other dig out, rescuing pets and gathering at a gas station and coffee shop running on generators.
