Water from the Great Artesian Basin, rising up under it's own pressure from about 1.5km underground. At our bore the water comes out at about 94°C, so it has to pass through a cooling system before it goes into the various poly pipe lines that take it to our tanks and troughs. Our poly pipe doesn't like very high temperatures and we don't want it imitating overcooked spaghetti. This float manages the flow of water into the cooling pond, which contains a grid of pipework in the cool deeper water.

This is what we call an Artesian well; water flows under natural pressure without pumping. It is dug or drilled wherever a gently dipping, permeable rock layer (such as sandstone) receives water along its outcrop at a level higher than the level of the surface of the ground at the well site.
