The Shankle House (circa 1840/1870) in Commerce, Georgia, holds a special place in Georgia Literary history. Georgia Hall of Fame Author Olive Ann Burns, known for her novel "Cold Sassy Tree," spent part of her childhood here. Early Jackson County pioneers Eli and Rebecca Shankle had the original one-story structure built in the 1840s.
